Inclusion Week and Unified Field Day Staff and students at LaPerche work to ensure that all students are included. Inclusion happens naturally when students are in class learning together and sharing recess time playing together. That happens every day at LaPerche. During Inclusion week, LaPerche had a week of engaging activities including spirit days, a pep rally, Unified Field Day and more. Check out this album of the week's activities and add your own if you attended! https://photos.app.goo.gl/FEz1TUHKfQn38TV59

The Smithfield District Teacher of the Year is Mrs. Torie Caldarone! Mrs. Caldarone is an outstanding special education teacher at LaPerche Elementary. What makes her outstanding? Every day she goes above and beyond what is expected or asked of her. Mrs. Caldarone brings positivity and endless energy to the students and her colleagues. She is a teacher who sees each student as a unique individual who is bursting with strengths and she works tirelessly to ensure the students see themselves that way too! She is someone who takes the time to get to know her students. Through her words and actions, they know she cares about them and they are in turn open to new challenges. They know they will persevere with her at their side. Torie believes strongly in the importance of inclusion and advocates for the most meaningful learning environments for all students. She understands that a truly inclusive setting is where children feel safe and have a sense of belonging. Torie often co-teaches in all learning areas to cultivate an inclusive classroom. She is the epitome of a team player who always finds a way to get it done and done well. She is creative and presents information so all learners are engaged and actively participate in their own learning. Her colleagues seek out her innovative problem-solving solutions. In addition to her role as a special education teacher at LaPerche, Mrs. Caldarone is also an induction coach acting as a mentor to new teachers. She fosters their learning and love for teaching through support and constant encouragement. She serves on and leads many committees at LaPerche and in Smithfield including the Responsive Classroom Leadership team, the LaPerche Inclusion Committee and she recently served on the Math Selection Team. You will often find Mrs. Caldrone on interview committees as she feels passionate about finding the best candidates to become part of the Smithfield family. Outside of school, she is the co-director of Dance Unlimited whose mission is to provide opportunities for movement and dance, for all people, so that their art reaches the hearts and minds of ALL who desire it. Congratulations, Mrs. Caldarone! We are so proud of you! See the pictures and videos from the assembly. https://photos.app.goo.gl/rgniqQy9GJbtijji6
