Hello OCRS families,
Back to a normal full 5-day week of school this week! Here are some notes and information for this and the next few weeks.
Bring Someone Special to Lunch Days
We are working with Chartwells, the district food service provider, to be able to offer "Bring Someone Special to Lunch" days in the upcoming weeks to allow parents/guardians to come to school and join their child for lunch. We think that this will be a fun way to invite parents and students to spend some time together at school and also for parents to have an opportunity to try the school lunches!
We will be spreading these days out over three weeks to ensure that we have enough space to accommodate parents/guardians and also allow for the Chartwells staff to be able to plan to provide meals for interested parents/guardians. Additional details will follow later this week, but here are the dates and times that we are tentatively planning for each grade level:
Wednesday, 2/1 for grade 2 (11:30 AM) and grade 5 (12:10 PM)
Wednesday, 2/8 for grade 1 (11:30 AM) and grade 4 (12:10 PM)
Wednesday, 2/15 for Kindergarten (11:30 AM) and grade 3 (12:10 PM)

NAMI-RI: Registration open for Family-to Family course
The Rhode Island chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness is now accepting registration for our next virtual Family-to-Family course which begins Thursday, February 2, 2023. This is a free, 8-session educational program for families, significant others and friends of people with mental health conditions. It is a designated evidenced-based program, which means that research shows that the program significantly improves the coping and problem-solving abilities of the people closest to a person with a mental health condition. NAMI-Rhode Island's Family-to-Family course is taught by trained family members who have lived experience with a loved one, and includes presentations, discussions and interactive exercises.
For more information on the Family-to-Family program, support groups and school presentations, visit https://namirhodeisland.org/support-and-education/mental-health-education/family-to-family/, call 401-331-3060, or email beth@namirhodeisland.org.
