Sunset over OCRS

Hello OCRS families,

This week begins the scheduling "zig zags" that accompany the month of November for all of us. We have no school this Tuesday due to Election Day and no school this Friday to celebrate Veterans Day. We also set our clocks back 1-hour this weekend to end Daylight Saving Time. We know that some students (and adults) have more challenges than others when their regular routine changes, so we will all need to be flexible and understanding with each other these next few weeks.

NO SCHOOL this Tuesday and Friday

There is no school this Tuesday due to Election Day. There is no school this Friday to celebrate Veterans Day. We do have school on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday as normal.

Parents Who Are Veterans

Friday, November 11th is Veterans Day and we would like to celebrate together as a school community. We are planning to have a short ceremony on Thursday morning on November 10th at 8:20 AM right after student arrival. If the weather is clear, we will gather outside the front of the school near our illuminated flag to say the pledge of allegiance together and engage in a moment of silence. If it is raining, we will gather together in the gym.

We would like to invite any OCRS parents that are veterans to join us on Thursday morning on November 10th for this quick school celebration so that we can acknowledge and honor you as part of our ceremony. My own father was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and I understand how important it is for all of us to thank and honor our veterans all throughout the year, especially on Veterans Day.

If you as a parent would be interested in joining us, please let me know by sending me a quick email at pbarrette@smithfield-ps.org.

Dental and Vision Screening for Students

Our annual school vision screening is currently taking place with Mrs. Forte and will continue throughout November. Please forward to Mrs. Forte any eye exams that your child may have had recently or if they have an upcoming eye exam appointment.

Dr. Greg Stepka, DMD will be conducting our dental screenings on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at OCRS. This is only a screening and does not take the place of a true dental hygiene appointment. Please complete the online permission form if you would like your child to participate in the dental screening at school.
