4th graders playing chess

Hello OCRS families,

Last Friday was the last day of school this year for students and OCRS teachers and staff wanted to express our thanks to families for your support throughout an ever changing (and sometimes challenging) school year. In spite of those challenges, there are so many great things to celebrate about this school year and we hope that everyone takes some time this summer to relax and recharge before the new year starts on August 30th!

Trimester 3 Report Cards

Students' Trimester 3 report cards are now available to view through the online Campus Parent Portal. Parents and families can access the online Campus Parent Portal at https://smithfieldri.infinitecampus.org/campus/portal/smithfield.jsp. Here's a link to instructions on how to login and view your child's report card.

Report cards are based on year end goals, so the Trimester 3 Report Card indicates progress demonstrated towards those year end goals. Teachers have worked together with their colleagues across the district to make sure that the information that parents receive accurately reflects the learning that is taking place.

If any family has difficulty logging into their Campus Parent Portal account, please email Mrs. Deus at mdeus@smithfield-ps.org or Mr. Barrette at pbarrette@smithfield-ps.org.

Classroom Teacher Assignments for Next Year

Classroom teacher assignments for the next school year for students starting grades 1 through 5 will be emailed directly to families towards the end of August. Even though teams of teachers have already created draft class lists, these draft lists often need to be changed and adjusted during the summer when students move in and out of the district. The class lists will be finalized in August and then shared with teachers and families.

Summer Learning

Did you know that if students stop learning during the summer, they can lose more than two months of learning in reading and math? This is called summer learning loss and it occurs when students forget what they learned over the school year. Students who consistently fall behind due to summer learning loss throughout their elementary school years could wind up falling more than 2.5 years behind their peers by the end of fifth grade.

Ways to support your child’s summer learning experience:

At the end of the summer, families can use this form (https://bit.ly/ocrssummer22) to indicate which summer learning activities were completed. All students who complete summer work will be invited to a celebration at their school this fall! We hope you will join us by supporting and cheering on your student as they strive to meet his or her summer goals! Please share the excitement with other parents, too!
