Hello OCRS families,
It's hard to believe, but we have two weeks of school left this school year! Teachers and staff are working hard to finish the school year successfully and help our students continue to learn right up through the last day of school.
Back to School Report #38
Dr. Paolucci will share a weekly report with Smithfield families to provide the latest information on COVID-19 information and protocols. Students and Sunscreen
The weather is really starting to warm up, so all classes are spending additional time outside to get out of warm classrooms. It's really important that students come to school wearing sunscreen to avoid sunburn. There is a new R.I. State Law (§ 16-21-39) that allows K-5 students to bring FDA approved sunscreen to school IF the sunscreen is accompanied by a note from their parent/guardian. For everyone's safety and to avoid sunscreen getting sprayed into anyone's eyes, aerosol and spray-on sunscreen should not be brought to school. Teachers and school staff will not be assisting students to apply sunscreen, so the best option is still to apply sunscreen at home before coming to school.
Field Day this Wednesday
Our OCRS Field Day is scheduled for this Wednesday and we're getting excited for a day of fun, cooperative activities for all students. Our 5th grade students will have a leadership opportunity in helping to run the activities with the younger students. Mr. Gruczka spent time this week introducing some of the activities and routines to the students to help everyone have a successful day on Wednesday. If for some reason the weather doesn't cooperate this Wednesday, we will reschedule for a day next week. We cannot reschedule for this Thursday or Friday because we already have Data Days scheduled for teachers to work together to evaluate student learning data for this year.
The majority of the Field Day activities will be outside, so it will be extremely important for students to be dressed appropriately if the weather is warm. Also, students should come to school wearing sunscreen and have full water bottles. The PTA is providing popsicles for students as a cool Field Day treat and they have been helping Mr. Gruczka plan some other surprises for the day!

As we close out the school year, we would like to celebrate the end of each week with a special Spirit Day to give students and staff an opportunity to have some fun together. Here is the list of all of the Spirit Days for the remainder of the year.
Tuesday, June 14th - Red, White, & Blue Day (Flag Day)
Wednesday, June 15th - FIELD DAY!
Friday, June 17th - Dress for your Future Day
Friday, June 24th - Hawaiian/Beach Day
Notify Us if Your Student is Not Attending OCRS Next Year
If your current Kindergarten through 4th grade student(s) will not be attending Old County Road Elementary School next year, please note it using the linked form and return the form to the school office as soon as possible. If you know which school your child will be attending next year, please also include that information.
Your prompt response will enable us to plan for class lists for next year, send home a Release of Records for your signature, and have your child’s records transferred to their new school for the start of school in the Fall of 2022.
PTA Information
General Membership Meeting
There will be a PTA General Membership Meeting held on Monday, June 13th at 7:00 PM. This is a change from when the meeting was originally scheduled. Here is a link to the minutes from the May PTA meeting.
This meeting will be held in-person with a virtual option for families that would prefer to attend virtually.
