Hello OCRS families,
Well, I think that we were spoiled by the amazing weather we had all last week. This week looks to include much more rain, so we'll keep a close eye on things for outdoor recess. It's hard to believe, but this is our last school week in October!
Back to School Report #10
Like last year, Dr. Paolucci will be sharing a weekly report with Smithfield families to provide the latest information on COVID-19 information and protocols. If you have not already read this week's "Back to School" report shared by Dr. Paolucci, please take a few moments to review it at https://www.smithfield-ps.org/article/566845.
Students should not bring toys to school
Last year when COVID protocols about sharing materials were much more strict, we had encouraged students to bring in their own toys and personal items to use during recess, particularly indoor recess. Because we now know that COVID is not widely spread by the sharing of materials, students are able to share the same school owned recess equipment.
Consequently, we ask that students please keep their personal toys and special personal items at home, including Pokemon cards. When students bring toys to school, it provides an additional distraction from learning and causes issues with special personal items getting lost or broken. If students repeatedly bring toys or personal items to school, they will be collected by their teacher to be given back to the students' parents. Thank you to all OCRS families for your cooperation.
Smithfield Apple Trails
Apple Trails is a fun hunting adventure encouraging visitors to explore our apple orchards and scenic walking trails in Smithfield. The Economic Development Commission, in partnership with the Land Trust and Conservation Commissions, will hide glass apples randomly across our apple orchards and conservation walking trails.
Please see the linked flyer for additional information and details about this fun event! Two OCRS students/families have already found glass apples!
Flu Immunization Clinic
There is a flu immunization clinic being held at OCRS on Wednesday, November 3rd from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. We are thinking that the clinic will be set up in the gym, however it's possible it may be in the cafeteria. We will make sure that there is easy to follow signage for anyone who comes to the clinic that evening.
PTA Information
PTA Trunk or Treat
The PTA is bringing back Trunk or Treat! This year's Trunk or Treat will be held on Friday, 10/29 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. at Old County Road School. In order to ensure that we have a safe event for all, we are asking each family to choose one 45-minute slot during which to attend the event. This will allow us to reduce crowding and help kids and families space out more easily.
If your family decorates a vehicle truck, you will need to commit to stay for the entire event from 6:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m., not for just one of the time slots.
This is a peanut free event, so any candy distributed must be peanut free!
If you have not already, please indicate your interest to attend the Trunk or Treat and select a time slot using this Google Form, https://forms.gle/5YQYnr5qQiPJoFJM6.
Fall Fundraiser
The PTA is kicking off an Otis Spunkmeyer Fall Fundraiser to help raise funds for student activities at OCRS! We are inviting all OCRS families to join in and share the fundraiser with family and friends. Please see the linked flyer for details and, if you have any questions, contact our PTA president at Jpoyourow@gmail.com.
