Hello OCRS families,
Important "Return to School" Survey
The district office sent out a mass email to families today with a link to an important "Return to School" survey. Because the message was sent using the district's mass alert/notification system, I'm hearing from some families that the message was sent to their Spam folder (the sender appears as "noreplyalert@smithfield-ps.org"). I wanted to ensure that every OCRS family received this important information, so I am sending it to you separately. Please read the information below and click the link to read and answer the survey questions.
"Districts were required to submit plans to the state for 3 opening scenarios: full, partial, and virtual. If the state mandates a full or partial in-person scenario, the current guidance does not allow districts to provide a distance learning option to families. It is critical that we know how many families are interested in a distance-learning option if it becomes possible. Please complete one survey per student by July 18th indicating your choice."

Also, if you were not able to attend last night's Return to School Family Forum, the district has posted a link to the recorded video, as well as the three documents containing answers to the questions about transportation, classroom setup, and distance learning. Finally, we know that many families have continuing concerns and questions about the reopening of school and some of those questions could not be answered during last night's Family Forum. The R.I. Department of Education (RIDE) is requiring all districts to submit their draft reopening plans by this Friday, July 17th. Districts should receive feedback on their plans from RIDE in the next two weeks which will help all of us continue to refine and adjust the plans. Some of the unanswered questions will be able to be better answered at this time.
I will continue to share information about the reopening of school with the OCRS community as soon as it is available. As some of you already know, I am also a Smithfield parent, so I truly understand (and share) the many concerns and questions that you have.
