Be Kind

Hello OCRS families,

The warm weather and rain at the end of last week cleared the snow and ice off of the OCRS playground. We're hoping that we don't get much (if any) snow this Sunday night so that our playground will stay clear and the kids will FINALLY be able to get back outside for recess!

Bring Someone Special to Lunch Days

We are working with Chartwells, our district food service provider, to bring back our popular "Bring Someone Special to Lunch" days! In the upcoming weeks we are inviting parents/guardians to come to school and join their child for lunch. This is a fun way to invite parents and students to spend some time together at school and also for parents to have an opportunity to try the school lunches!

An email was sent out to all OCRS families on Saturday, 1/20 with the details and a link to sign-up to attend "Bring Someone Special to Lunch". All parents/guardians/adult family members must sign-up ahead of time using the online form below.

When Should Students Be Kept Home from School Due to Illness?

Since COVID, it can be confusing for families to know exactly when to keep your child home from school when they're sick. We know that this confusion can also contribute to a higher absence rate for students because families are trying to do the right thing for everyone involved. The good news is that the guidance for when students should be kept home from school due to illness is included in the Elementary School Handbook. Here is a summary of the information:

Keep your child home from school if your child has:

  • Temperature above 100 °F within the past 24 hours and/or general condition is poor in spite of temperature
  • Sore throat and/or swollen glands
  • Earache and/or discharge from the ear canal
  • Itchy red eyes, with or without drainage
  • Frequent or uncontrolled cough and/or runny nose
  • Severe headache
  • Unidentified rash
  • Vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours
  • Seizures

If your child has been diagnosed with a throat or eye infection, (i.e. Strep throat or pink eye) and is put on an antibiotic, he/she needs to stay home for a full 24 hours before returning to school.

If your child tests positive for COVID, consider Day 0 as the date that their symptoms began (not the date they tested positive). Keep your child home from school through Day 5. Your child can return to school on Day 6 as long as they are fever free and have not experienced vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours.

Online Volunteer Training Offered on Thursday, 2/1 at 4:30 PM

If you have reviewed the Volunteer Handbook and you are interested in possibly volunteering at school (including serving as a field trip chaperone), we are offering Volunteer Training for any parent/guardian who has never completed a training session. You only need to complete this training once in your child's time at OCRS; you do not need to complete this training annually. You do need to have an updated BCI on file on an annual basis in order to volunteer.

To make it as convenient as possible for families, the Volunteer Training session will be offered online and will take less than 30 minutes.
