#Engage, Energize, & Educate

August 23rd, 2024

Dear Families,

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year.  Mrs. Dohoney and I are excited to welcome students, families, and staff back to school on Tuesday, August 27th.

We also want to take this opportunity to thank the PTO for organizing a wonderful Welcome Back To School Night for our families. It was nice to see everyone and hear the excitement about the upcoming school year and their summer time off.

Please be sure to mark your calendars for Wednesday, September 3rd which is our first PTO meeting.  The meeting takes place at 6:30pm in the cafeteria (door 2).  Children are welcome to attend.

We are very grateful for our generous PTO and their financial support on expanding the usable space on the playground.  Here are a few photos from the upgrades.

If you were unable to attend the Welcome Back Night to receive your Walker Passes and Car Rider Passes for the upcoming school year, here’s how you can receive them. If your child is going home as a car rider, please email Mrs. Ross at jross@smithfield-ps.org and she will send the car rider passes home in your child’s folder.  If your child is going home as a walker,  they will be dismissed out of door 8 for grades 3rd-5th and door 9 for grades k-2nd.  There will be two tables outside the doors (weather permitting) with staff issuing walker passes.  PLEASE BE SURE TO HAVE YOUR IDENTIFICATION CARDS. If your child is riding the bus or going to the YMCA, they do not need a pass.

Before School Recess

Please share with your child that this year their backpacks will go outside with them to  morning recess versus being in the hallways.  Students should look for their teacher's name on a cone in their designated play area and place their backpack behind the cone in a straight line.  Staff will help students with this new routine.
