
Smithfield teachers have super powers! Still at the early stages of our writing initiative, writing instruction has put Smithfield students at the top. Ranking RICAS writing item scores against other state public schools, 4 of the 7 grades tested ranked 1st-4th in the state.

Dr. Paolucci participated in SUPERS Read at Cadence Academy. The goal for this event sponsored by United Way of RI, RI Kids Count, and RIAEYC was to highlight the importance of reading to children.

Smithfield singers spreading holiday cheer at the RI State House


Middle and high school teachers engaged in professional development focused on recognizing and reacting to implicit bias. This is a continuation of our work with the Anti-Defamation League which was made possible by a grant through Tri-County Community Action and BHDDH.



SHS Open House featured showcases of CTE programs and departments, as well as students sharing their Rube Goldberg devices and knowledge of energy transfers.

Using Venn diagrams for analyzing setting differences in a story in kindergarten. This is rigor and kindergarteners showed that they are up for the challenge!

A recent RI Kids Count publication on advisory systems and individual learning plans indicated that Smithfield is one of only 2 districts with 60% or more of students responding Yes to having an individual learning plan. Kuddos to our guidance staff!

Smithfield elementary teachers spent the day engaged in professional learning. Topics included Responsive Classroom, math, writing, science, special education practices and more!

I enjoyed participating in the 2019 Supers Read to Young Children event! The goal is to encourage infants and toddlers build a lifelong love of learning. This year's reading was done at Cadence Academy Preschool in Smithfield.


Thank you to Farm Fresh RI and Chartwells for providing our OCRS first graders the opportunity to visit Jaswell's Farm for a pumpkin picking adventure!!! Students in the first grade learn about seeds and how they produce new plants.
