As the calendar advances and we acknowledge the start of spring, Passover, and Easter, we also complete the third week of virtual learning. Our administrators, teachers, students, and families are working together to ensure that learning continues, despite the requirements for social distancing. Not only am I impressed by the quality of work being done, but I also marvel at the positive stance all are taking.
We know that the needs of our families will extend beyond learning and technology support and are finding new ways to connect resources to needs. We are working with Smithfield's Director of Human Services / Senior Center, the Director of the YMCA, our social workers, Director of Special Education, the Smithfield Rotary, and other community groups to support our families during these trying times. Please let your child's principal know of any needs you may have.
The Raising Healthy Kids Newsletter (see link) includes resources for you as you cope with COVID-19. Also, the Regional Resource Guide (see link) provides listings for local support services for mental health services, suicide prevention, substance abuse disorders, and social supports.
Over the next week, I expect the state to make decisions regarding the remainder of the school year and will share any future plans with you at that time.
Stay healthy!
Judy Paolucci, Superintendent
