We are happy to announce that Smithfield High School is one of 20 Rhode Island high school teams to receive a $25,000 XQ+RI Planning Grant! Over the past 2 months, teams of parents, teachers, and students have been meeting to brainstorm concepts that would help to push the design of the aging Smithfield High School into the 21st century. All groups agreed on the need to create space for project-based, hands-on learning to occur.
In the next phase of the grant process, a formal Design Team consisting of parents, community members, teachers, students, and administrators will work with partners from XQ+RI to create a school redesign proposal. This second proposal is due on December 15th and will put the high school in the running to receive a $500,000 Implementation Grant.
