Vision 2028 - District Strategic Planning
The Smithfield Public Schools is moving forward with the next steps of our strategic planning process. We are currently seeking members of the Smithfield community, students, families, officials, residents, faculty and staff, business owners, etc. to participate in our Task Forces.
The tremendous amount of data that was collected from the community was reviewed uncovering Big Ideas and will comprise four task forces.
These task forces are:
Academic Excellence and Student Learning - this task force may encompass developing a Profile of a Smithfield Public School Graduate (the skills, experiences, knowledge that all SPS students should have), the expansion of Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses, developing vocational pathways, improving proficiencies in all content areas, diversifying instructional and assessment methods, etc.
Innovation and Engagement - may explore adding high tech to all of our schools, increasing STEM and STEAM, hands-on learning through inquiry, flexible learning areas and programs, etc.
Communications - may look at different methods for getting information out to our community and developing interactive channels, while increasing transparency.
Facilities - may focus on our high school and middle school buildings, developing a priority list of capital improvements, etc.
Social Emotional Learning and Wellness - this task force will expand the work that was done under the current strategic plan. Subtopics that may be included in this task force include: social emotional health and mental wellness for students and staff, anti bullying initiatives, building inclusive schools, health and nutrition.
District Improvement Team - The District Improvement Team will oversee the work of the task forces and subcommittees. We are looking for several community members who would be able to commit to this committee over the course of the next 3-5 years. During the development of the new plan, meetings will be more frequent and then will be quarterly.
If you are interested in participating in the Task Forces or the District Improvement Team, please see the link to the left to sign up.
Thank you for your interest.
Sincerely,
Dawn Bartz
Superintendent of the Smithfield Public Schools
